Quanex Announces McHattie Scholarship Winners for 2000
HOUSTON, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Quanex Corporation (NYSE: NX) announced today three winners of its annual William A. McHattie Scholarships, named in honor of the former president of Quanex Corporation. These awards are given every year to Quanex employees' children who are selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to receive a four-year grant for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university. The grants are funded by the Quanex Foundation. This year's recipients are listed below in alphabetical order.
Amy R. Faschingbauer
This spring Amy will graduate with a 3.99 grade point average on a 4.0 scale from Rice Lake High School in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She is a member of the National Honor Society, varsity tennis team, Key Club, yearbook staff, forensics team, and Students Against Drunk Driving. She also participates in volunteer work for her church and was a three-time medalist in statewide forensics team competition. Amy's goal is to continue her studies at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, majoring in accounting and eventually becoming a certified public accountant.
She is the daughter of Rosemary and Dean Faschingbauer, a warehouse staffer at Quanex's AMSCO manufacturing facility in Rice Lake.
Kristy A. Graham
The third-highest ranking student in her class of 124, Kristy has maintained a 4.03 grade point average at Ripley High School in Ripley, Mississippi. She has participated in the school's symphonic and marching bands, Beta Club, Spanish Club, varsity tennis team, newspaper staff, and library club. She's listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students" and serves as the secretary at her church's Sunday school. Kristy plans to attend Mississippi State University in Starkville, majoring in social science, either anthropology, political science, or sociology- or perhaps all three.
Kristy is the daughter of Jesse and Mary Graham, a machine operator with Quanex's Piper Impact Division in New Albany, Mississippi.
Kathryn G. Williams
At Grass Lake High School in Grass Lake, Michigan, Katie is ranked second in her class of 57 with a 3.99 grade point average. A student leader, scholar and athlete, she has been elected to student council and served as class treasurer for three years. Katie, who works part-time during the school year and full-time in summer, also is a member of the National Honor Society and Students Against Drunk Driving as well as being a member of the cross country and track teams. This fall she plans to attend Michigan State University in East Lansing, majoring in biology to pursue a scientific career as a molecular-cellular biologist.
Katie is the daughter of Clara and Jerry Williams, a caster supervisor at Quanex's MACSTEEL-Michigan facility.
